The normal physiologic changes of aging alter the presenting symptoms of acute illness and disease.  Most health care professionals understand that illness/disease in infants and children present differently from adults - but with older adults, how the normal aging process affects the usual signs and symptoms characterizing a particular condition or illness is often missed, resulting in misdiagnosis or no diagnosis.
